10) Ring of Honor World Title Match
Jerry Lynn over Nigel McGuinness (C) to capture the ROH World Title after a Cradle Piledriver.

10/20/08 02:35 am - carved_dreams - SAW 9/12/08

Airing October 11, 2008 in Nashville on Comcast 74
Taped September 12, 2008 in Millersville, Tn at the SAW Mill
Larry Goodman

Opening with a brief Raven promo touting his SAW debut in 7 day. He was sitting in the forklift again. Raven said he was coming to hurt people, win titles and bring excitement. He better bring more excitement than these first two promos have.

Michael St. John and Reno Riggins did the stand up for what MSJ described as one of the most anticipated episodes of television in SAW history, Jerry Lynn’s final shot at Kid Kash with the SAW title on the line in a 30 minute Ironman Match. MSJ said we were going to talk to some of the fans and wrestlers about the match.

Cut to Hot Rod Biggs getting predictions from two fans. They both went for Lynn. Christina said Lynn would win because he was pretty. Nothing from the wrestlers.

SAW Summary: MSJ noted their shared past in ECW. He narrated clips from the three previous matches in this series. Their first encounter ended as 15+ minute draw. The second, with a one hour time limit, saw Kash used the banned piledriver for an intentional DQ. That led to a no DQ match in which Kash got counted out.

They put up a tale of the tape graphic during the intros. Kash’s record in SAW was listed as 112-2 while Lynn was 89-3, as if they had been wrestling seven nights a week.

1 – 30 Minute Ironman Match for the SAW International Championship: Champion KID KASH vs. JERRY LYNN

A bare minimum of action in the opening minutes with Kash employing the tactics he’s used throughout this series – stalling, complaining and most of all, bating the fans. At one point, Kash pushed a fan into the wall as he was attacked from behind by Lynn. Later, he dragged a fan out of his seat and wrestled him to the floor (same guy he tore a shirt off of a couple of months ago). Lynn came out and scuffled with Kash. Kash tried to cut off Lynn’s reentry with an elbow drop, but came up empty. Lynn started working an armbar.

4 – No Disqualification Match for the SAW International Championship: KID KASH (C) vs. JERRY LYNN

Lynn was all over Kash, attacking him before he made it into the ring. Mostly brawling on the outside for the first 2 minutes with some nasty back raking going on. Reno said the ref was letting them go in light of the circumstances. Kash slammed Lynn’s head into a chair and strangled him with the mike cord. Inside the ring, it was nothing but a gutter brawl. The announce team brought up ECW. Lynn catapulted Kash’s throat into the bottom rope for a near fall. Kash bit Lynn’s torso. A fan in first row looked completely disgusted by this. [Commercial break] With Lynn in full control, Kash resorted to a low blow ala Flair, then a knee drop to the nuts, and then a hotshot to the groin. Kash applied a leglock around the ropes, but Lynn punched his way out of it. Kash stomped on Lynn’s ankles. Lynn blocked a stomp and rolled away from Kash’s elbow drops. Lynn used a flying double knee to the back and a rabbit lariat. Kash kicked out. Kash wedged a chair between the ropes and tried to whip Kash into it, but Lynn put on the brakes with a baseball slide. Lynn hit a Thesz Press and pounded away. Kash kicked out of an O’Connor Roll sending Lynn’s head into the chair. Kash rolled Lynn up with the tights but Lynn kicked out. Lynn ducked a home run swing with the chair by Kash and hit a reverse DDT on the chair. Kash kicked out at the last split second. Kash rolled out to the floor. Lynn followed with a DDT on the ramp. Lynn got back in the ring to break the count, but ref Kurt Herron continued the count on Kash. Lynn tried get Kash back into the ring, but Kash hugged the ringpost to prevent it.

Herron (MSJ called him Curt Hennig) handed the belt back to Kash, still down the floor. Kash pointed at his brain and gave Lynn the one finger salute.

Winner: Jerry Lynn via countout at 9:26. The first all-action match of this feud. The great thing about it was the SAW title being treated as the ultimate prize. Kash will stoop as low as necessary to keep it, and Lynn is now obsessed with getting it. I didn’t see the count out finish as a problem, per se. It gave Kash another way to escape and keep this wonderful thing going, and not make Lynn look like a dummy. The problem was the ref allowing them to fight outside for a 20 count at the start of the match. With a different finish, who cares? But you can’t have it both ways.

Complete results by IWC Play-by-Play Announcer & Media Correspondant Joe Dombrowski

The International Wrestling Cartel returned to the Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth, Pa with all the fallout from last month’s Super Indy VI spectacular. With promoter Norm Connors not in attendance, would the inmates truly be running the asylum?

Our main event saw the legendary former World champion Jerry Lynn defeat “Sweet & Sour” Larry Sweeney for undisputed possession of the Super Indy Title. Lynn, the consummate, respectful professional refused to acknowledge himself as the official Super Indy champion until he defeated prior titleholder Sweeney. After a unique strut-off, and great contest, Lynn reigned supreme as champion, with Sweeney both gracious and humble -- and quick to mention his prized ICW/ICWA Texarkana TV Title was NOT as stake. However, IWC’s Super Indy division officially enters the Jerry Lynn Era.

Johnny Gargano was able to defeat former Super Indy champion Troy Lords in a match of two athletes at a career crossroads, searching for momentum. Gargano was accompanied to ringside by Jerry Lynn, the man who defeated Gargano to qualify into Super Indy VI. It seems Gargano’s efforts against Lynn were enough to impress the former ECW champion, as Lynn and Gargano were seen discussing strategy earlier in the day. Is Lynn taking the 20 year old upstart under his wing?

Marek Brave vs. Tyler Black & Shane Hollister & ? as well as Austin
Aries, Zach Gowen, Matt Cross, Josh Abercrombie and N8 Mattson

The bad blood between these men is no secret as now the new JJ Inc will enter the ring as a unit to take on bitter rivals Tyler Black and Shane Hollister with a partner of their choosing. Black’s issues with JJ Inc stem all the way back to the Windy City Classic when Danny Daniels and Jerry Lynn aligned themselves with Jim Jesus. Marek Brave then made a shocking return and cost Black the Heavyweight title at “Twisted Christmas”. Black now has an ally in Shane Hollister as Jim Jesus and company tried attacking his injured tag team partner Bryce Benjamin last month.

With Benjamin still on the shelf Black and Hollister will have a mystery partner this Saturday night. Rumors are now running rampant as to who will join this team and go to war with the unholy alliance Jim Jesus has created.

Former WWE Champion, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion, & the longest-reigning ECW World Television Champion, "The Whole F'n Show," Rob Van Dam, was one of the special guests on this past week's live edition (02/04/08) of Monday Night Mayhem

While the interview was seeming to wind down at this point, The Big Mosh, Blade, & Mr. DFL threw in a nice surprise into the mix: an unannounced show appearance by underground legend, Rob's long-time friend, & who many fans & journalists call RVD's best-ever ECW opponent, Jerry Lynn. Mosh re-hashed their highly acknowledged & unprecedented feud in the original ECW, and asked them if the magic of their work together can ever be brought once again to the forefront. Will be see RVD vs. Jerry Lynn in the WWE or TNA in the future? Well fans: We aren't giving away the answer in this recap -- You have to listen into the interview to find that out! But believe it or not, Jerry & Rob indeed did wrestle again after their spectacular ECW feud on a SmackDown show, where more time was promised to develop the chemistry, but was ultimately cut out of the televised show.

RVD then shared his general lack of interest in the intense WWE schedule -- including the rigors of traveling via airplane & the several in-ring matches per week. Rob has all but given up on the thought of subscribing to that kind of intense travel schedule, and said the he has only wrestled twice since his WWE contract expired. Rob & Jerry talked about how integral the elements of fun & passion are, and the presence of these two factors must be readily apparent in order to be successful in their wrestling endeavors. Rob & Jerry agreed on how individuals can still achieve success in wrestling today, which basically hinges on individualism, charisma, dedication, & work ethic. Imitation is unacceptable in their joint perspectives.

Recapper's take on the interview: The interview with RVD was highly enjoyable. I liked how candid & honest he was with The Mayhem Crew. While Rob is more freely available to make show appearances nowadays, his guest spot here was special -- considering the fact that he was in a conference call with old ECW originals, Jerry "New Lynn & Jim Molineaux. Check out the show v iastreaming audio or the MNM podcast/ITunes, it's a great listen.

2CW Results from June 23rd Rochester NY: Jerry Lynn, Fonzie, SWB, Outkast and Loca Balcony Dive!!

What a great night of wrestling action in Rochester NY at the German House. We saw the debuts of "THE NEW F'N SHOW" Jerry Lynn, Brian Fury and the tag team of The Wyld Stallyons, 2CW Champion DIZZIE successfully defend his Title against Zaquary Springate III and the balcony dive of Loca Vida. We here at 2CW want to thank all those fans that came out last night to support us. THANKS. Now onto the results......

MATCH #3 - Nikki Roxx vs. Ariel
WINNER: Nikki Roxx

WOW!!! What an amazing match and the crowd let these ladies know it. It was awesome!!! You will not see women wrestling like that on Monday nights.

MATCH #8 - "THE NEW F'N SHOW" Jerry Lynn vs. Slyck Wagner Brown
WINNER: Slyck Wagner Brown

Another match that just solidifies why 2CW is where the wrestling is the entertainment. These two veterans gave the fans another amazing match for the evening. Slyck picks up the win only to be attacked by DIZZIE and then Zaquary Spingate III came in and also attacked only for both men to be laid out by Lynn and Brown. Fans then celebrated with Lynn and Brown as the show came to an end.

Funking Conservatory - Results from Support the Troops 17, Red White Black and Blue
Dory Funk Jr. - Monday, July 2 2007 - 1:54 PM

!BANG! TV's Television Taping started 15 minutes early as the Funking Conservatory Arena was packed to capacity with a standing room only crowd of 200 avid wrestling fans.

Special Guest for the !BANG! TV Taping was Jack Brisco. Appearing on the card, Jerry Lynn.

In a three way battle for the Women's Championship, a new Women's Champion was crowned when Miss Vicki (Corner Person Shane Chung) won after first spearing The Claw, Claudia Reiff (Corner Person Jerry Lynn) then catching her own tag team partner, Lady Kimberly (Corner Person Blain Rage) with a spear then covering her for a three count. Lady Kimberly's foot was on the bottom rope however it was pushed off by Miss Vicki's Corner Person, Shane Chung and the Referee awarded Miss Vicki the Funking Conservatory Women's Championship.

In the final match, Elvis Sharp with the Pop Tarts, Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki and Flyin' Ryan "Air" Mitchell with Sandii Skye became new Funking Conservatory Tag Team Champions winning by disqualification over Johnny Magnum and Jerry Lynn in a match held under TNA rules. (Championships can change hands on a disqualification) Sandii Skye's attempt at a low blow from behind on Jerry Lynn was ill conceived as Jerry Lynn blocked the low blow between his legs and reversed Sandii Skye into a "Bob Backlund" Special Chicken Wing and Half Nelson. The referee, The Claw disqualified Jerry Lynn for unecessary roughness on a non-wrestler of the opposite sex giving the Funking Conservatory Tag Team Championship to Flyin' Ryan "Air" Mitchell and Elvis Sharp.

The next !BANG! TV Taping will be Sunday July 29th. Appearing on the card will be Father James Mitchell and James Storm. For ticket information and Funking Conservatory Training Schedules call 352-895-4658 or visit www.dory-funk.com for more information.

Texas Wrestling Promoter conducts a MySpace top 100

Texas Promoter Devin Storm (www.myspace.com/devin_storm ) did a Independent Wrestlers TOP 100 as voted by the fans and people of MySpace, he allowed people to add him as a friend or simply send him an email message giving there picks, he tallied the voted up on July 1st and this was his final list, The popularity seemed to play more to Independent wrestlers in Texas (simply because of the promoters booking area I am sure) but there are multible wrestlers from across the globe in this list, either way this is an interesting list nonetheless, here are the male wrestlers results.

AAW Press Release - Preview for Saturday 7/14

Saturday July 14th is the day every AAW athlete and every AAW fan has had marked on their calendars all year. July 14th the Berwyn Eagles Club will once again host AAW’s biggest event of the year, the third annual “Scars and Stripes”. This years show promises to be the biggest in the company’s three and a half year history. This is the night titles will be up for grabs, scores will be settled, and blood will be spilled. Let’s take a closer look at the card for AAW Scars and Stripes 2007!

Jerry Lynn defeated Marek Brave on May 19th to become the sixth man to hold the AAW Heavyweight title. After resorting to a low blow to pin the young champ, Jerry Lynn would go on to taunt Marek and the AAW faithful. This change in attitude has forced the entire roster to take notice. Lynn was once one of the most respected veterans in the AAW lockeroom and is now one of the most dangerous. A 20 man over the top rope battle royal will be held at Scars and Stripes with the winner earning the first shot at Jerry Lynn and the belt later on in the evening. With so much at stake friendships will be set aside and this battle royal promises to be an absolute war.

Frankie “Kaz” Kazarian Interview Recap from Sunday Night’s Wrestling Observer Live Radio Show:
Steve Gerweck - Monday, July 16 2007 - 4:06 PM

- Frankie said Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe has everyone's respect in the locker room. He said no one is really the locker room leader, but said it's an asset to have guys like Kurt Angle and Sting in their locker room. He said it's a family atmosphere in TNA. He said lots of the X-division wrestlers look up to Jerry Lynn.

by Les Thatcher @ 1:41:34 PM on 7/19/2007

I would like to see Basham and Damaja at some point worked into the main tag team scene as they can step up if given the chance. While talking about TNA let me interject this. Rumors have surfaced that Sean Waltman might be headed in that direction. If that is the case, then please oh might creative people, give Sean and Jerry Lynn 20 minutes or so on one of your television tapings and let them go. Also get all the young guys gathered around a TV monitor for a lesson in how it's done. These two athletes are talented and mature and can be great teachers for the current crop of hopefuls.

Pre show:
Derek St. Holmes d. Tony Rican via submission
American History Next (Steve Stone & Brandon Blaze) d. Kris Hybrid and Bonebreaker Brooks

Show opened with a promo by Derek St. Holmes who was conducting a class with his trainees in the lockeroom. The students were distracted by the lovely Koa who convinced Derek to let the class out early for some “one on one” training.

-In an amazing upset, Krotch won the 20 man battle royal and earned a shot at Jerry Lynn later in the evening.

It came down to Ryan Boz, Jay Ryan, Silas Young and Krotch. After Silas dumepd both of the big men out from behind he charged Krotch who ducked down and sent Silas flying over the top.

A promo from Eric Priest where he claimed he would defeat Joey Mercury later in the evening and then called out Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lynn saying it wasn’t the belt that makes the man but the man that makes the belt. Jimmy Jacobs interrupted Priest and told him he had three of the best wrestlers in AAW in his stable and the Heritage title would soon be back with Jacobs.

-Jerry Lynn d. Krotch to retain the AAW Heavyweight title

The underdog Krotch came close on a few occasions to scoring the biggest win of his career but finally was put away by a cradle piledriver.

Jerry Lynn d. Keith Walker to retain the AAW Heavyweight title

Walker man handled Lynn in the early going. Lynn was able to take out the right leg of the cahllenger and wear him down. Walker made a comeback but the referee was taken out. Jim Jesus came to ringside and gave Lynn a steel chair. It took two chair shots, two low blows and a cradle piledriver to keep Walker down.
Walker was furious after the match and hit referee Andy Long with the Walker Driver.

Danny Daniels d. Tyler Black in an "I Quit Match" after Black passed out

These two hit each other with EVERYTHING they had. Ladders, shovels, chairs , barbed wire and tables. Too much to recap here. In the end Jim Jesus and Jerry Lynn came to ringside to help Danny Daniels!!!! Daniels applied a "rings of Saturn" submission as the fans rallied behind Tyler Black! When Black passed out from the pain Daniels was declared the winner. Jim Jesus told Tyler it wasn't personal, it was about money. Jim Jesus had placed a large bet on Daniels to win the match and had to do what it took to win that bet. "The New JJ Inc" of Jim Jesus, Jerry Lynn and Danny Daniels stood in the ring as the show came to a close.

TNA Today: The Rewind - 5-29-07 (episode 1)
By Thomas Clemens

Today's edition of TNA Today is a special two episode edition which opens with Jeremy Borash at the iMPACT! Zone in Orlando, Florida. As we begin this edition, we learn that we will be hearing from X Division Champion Chris Sabin as he begins preparation for Slammiversary live on pay per view on June 17th.

Having been with TNA now for nearly 4 years and also at one time being the longest-reigning TNA X Division Champion, Sabin is then asked by Jeremy for his list of his greatest matches and accomplishments. Sabin responds that his number one match was his fist X Division Title win, which occurred when he defeated Jerry Lynn and the Amazing Red. That match was actually Sabin's third match in his TNA tenure. Sabin also said he has had some epic battles with the likes of Senshi, Samoa Joe, and others, but nothing compares to him being the current reigning X Division Champion.

Match 1: Robert Roode vs. Jerry Lynn

Roode comes out first. Jerry Lynn gets the "through So Cal Val legs entrance." Match begins with Roode in control until Jerry Lynn comes back with a leg scissors. Following that is an armbar. Roode comes back with a knee to gut and back Lynn into the corner. He kicks away at a grounded Jerry. Action spills to the outside as we are given the TNA Mobile Poll. It is as follows:

Who is Christian Cage’s opponent in the final KOTM Qualifier next week?
- Jeff Jarrett
- Chris Jericho
- Scott Steiner
- None of the above

Anyways, back to the match. Roode sends Lynn’s back right into the guard rail twice. He rolls Lynn back into the ring fir the two count. Roode hits a gutbreaker for the two. Tables turn as Lynn hits a hurricarana and then a dropkick. A DDT follows but Ms. Brooks climbs the apron and distracts the ref. Lynn attempts a Cradle Piledriver but gets lowblowed. As a result, Roode is able to hit The Payoff for the win.

Winner: Robert Roode

After the match, Roode and Ms. Brooks start to beat on Jerry Lynn. To his rescue comes Eric Young with a chair. Robert Roode shoves Ms. Brooks in the way and runs away. Brooks tires to escape behind him but Young grabs her. He is about to give her a piledriver but Jim Cornette comes out and says he will not condone violence against women in TNA. If Ms. Brooks really wants to get physically involved in other people’s business then tonight she goes one on one with Gail Kim.

Video package of last week, AJ qualified for the King
of the Mountain match.

Match I : Robert Roode w/ Ms. Brooks v. Jerry Lynn
Roode starts the offense with fists to the back of
Lynn. Lynn into the corner, rights delivered by Roode.
Lynn off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a
huracanrana. Arm drag takeover to Roode, wrenches the
arm and nails some knees to Roode. Reversal shoots
Lynn off the ropes, kick to Roode's sternum, off the
ropes and a kick to Lynn's knees sends him down.

Roode with multiple kicks to Lynn before sending him
to the outside. Lynn meets the guardrail before Roode
hits a shoulder block. Back in the ring, two count on
Lynn. Roode continues to work the side and arm of
Lynn. Gut buster on Lynn, two count. Rest hold with
Roode getting a reverse bear hug. Lynn fights back,
off the ropes and clotheslines Roode. Off the ropes
again, huracanrana.

Roode misses an attempted knee, Lynn gets a roll up
for two. Standing drop-kick by Lynn, DDT, two count.
Lynn sets Roode up for the Cradle Piledriver but Ms.
Brooks distracts the ref allowing Roode to get a low
blow. Perfectplex, three count.

Winner : Robert Roode

Post-match Roode stomps on Lynn but Eric comes down
with the save. Eric follows them outside and Roode
throws Ms. Brooks to him. Back in the ring, Eric sets
up a chair shot with Lynn holding Ms. Brooks. Cornette
interrupts. Cornette says no men beating up women.
Cornette said he told them not to beat her up, but he
didn't say she wasn't getting beaten up tonight.
Tonight it's Ms. Brooks v. Gail Kim.

Evaluation - The match was decent, I would have liked
Lynn to pick up the win since he's been on a streak.
Rating - * 1/2.

TNA Today: The Rewind 6-12-07
By Thomas Clemens

The edition of TNA Today for June 12, 2007 opens with a commercial for the upcoming Slammiversary event. From there we are taken to the iMPACT! Zone in Orlando, Florida, where we are joined by Jeremy Borash and his guest, X Division pioneer, Jerry Lynn.

Jerry talks about the many sacrifices he has made throughout the course of his career but that in the end, he knows it was all worth it. So long as he can keep things fun and avoid any politics, he has every intention of continuing to do what he loved to do, wrestle. He is very thankful for the opportunities he has had and looks forward to the future.

Following a commercial for upcoming live TNA events, footage is shown of several television newscasts picking up coverage of the memorable Slammiversary 5 year anniversary press conference, which featured the showdown between former Titans great Frank Wycheck and Cowboy James Storm. This certainly garnered a lot of a mainstream coverage for TNA Wrestling. A portion of an post press conference interview with Frank Wycheck is shown, which serves as part of the basis for his match at Slammiversary with Cowboy James Storm.

Alan Wojcik's Nashville Wrestling Weekend Day 2: TNA Fan Fest
Alan J. Wojcik - Saturday, June 16 2007 - 8:03 PM
(credit Alan J. Wojcik of http://alanwojcik.com)

TNA's return to Nashville began on Saturday June 16, 2007 with a Fan Fest at the Music Valley Center over by Opry Land. As previous signings, it was broken up into two sessions. Session one included: Ms. Brooks, Robert Roode, Team 3D, Eric Young, Petey Williams, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Mr. Bob Backlund, Kurt Angle, So Cal Val, Leticia, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Jim Cornette and the members of Serotonin. The second session included: Christopher Daniels, LAX, the Voodoo Kin Mafia, Lance Hoyt, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Damaja and Basham, Christy Hemme, Senshi, Gail Kim, Jacqueline Moore, Jerry Lynn, Christian Cage, Chris Harris, Tomko, AJ Styles, and Ron Killings. Jeff Jarrett was unable to attend due to personal family issues.

In addition to the signings there was a full merchandise set up with a temporary tattoo station. At the merchandise stand you purchased $5 coupons for 8x10’s and $10 for Polaroids if you didn’t bring your own camera. Unlike the Victory Road 2004 and Bound for Glory 2005 Fan Fest’s there wasn’t a Q & A session with the wrestlers but this venue was a little smaller than the ballroom used at the Doubletree Hotel. Unlike the previous signings I have attended the lines this year moved briskly and you were able to make your way to around the room in the allotted 2 hours. If you were in town for the PPV and did not attend this you missed out on lots of fun.

Countdown to TNA Slammiversary

Matt Mackinder
Mr. Backlund vs. Alex Shelley - Out with the (very) old, in with the new. Shelley takes it.
Eric Young vs. Robert Roode - This feud has gone on long enough – Roode ends it decisively.
VKM vs. Damaja/Basham - Hemme is the only reason to watch this match and her team takes the victory.
Frank Wycheck/Jerry Lynn vs. James Storm/Ron Killings - Wycheck and Lynn go over here with possible interference from “Wildcat” Chris Harris.

Jon Waldman
Mr. Backlund vs. Alex Shelley - Shelley either wins and wins big here, or is off to WWE.
Eric Young vs. Robert Roode - Roode takes this one easily.
VKM vs. Damaja/Basham - Do I smell a burning limo? I'm guessing that there's a few shots at WWE in this match, as the Basham Brothers take it.
Frank Wycheck/Jerry Lynn vs. James Storm/Ron Killings - Wycheck wins for his crew.

Greg Oliver
Mr. Backlund vs. Alex Shelley - A throwaway comedy match, sure, but Mr. Backlund will win in a throwback.
Eric Young vs. Robert Roode - If Roode ever gets up the roster, he'll look back at this as a turning point. Roode wins.
VKM vs. Damaja/Basham - Will Hemme ever get her revenge on VKM? Does anyone care? Damaja & Bashman win.
Frank Wycheck/Jerry Lynn vs. James Storm/Ron Killings - This is a no-brainer. The former Tennessee Titan and Lynn take it.

Pre-Game Show Notes:

James Storm's promo building the match with Frank Wycheck were really damn good. Storm has to be considered one of the most improved wrestlers of the year if this keeps up....

Slammiversary PPV:
They aired a video feature on the Slammiversary press conference that led to the James Storm-Frank Wycheck angle.

Leticia Cline interviewed James Storm and Jackie Moore. Storm said Wycheck better kiss his wife and kids goodbye. Jackie Moore asked Cline how much she paid for her implants, then told her to ask for a refund because they were a little lopsided. Not as funny as you might think reading this.

Ron Killings & James Storm vs. Frank Wycheck & Jerry Lynn (with Kyle Vanden Bosch)
resultsCollapse )

I thought this was another fun match. They booked the hell out of this to try and make it entertaining and put Wycheck in a position where he looked good but didn't embarrass the business either. It was obviously something that meant more to the live crowd then most of the audience at home, but it didn't feel forced once they were in the ring.

Bob Backlund vs. Alex Shelley
resultsCollapse )
Backlund offered Shelley a handshake as Sabin snuck up from behind. Sabin went for a crossface chickenwing but Backlund reversed it. Backlund then locked it in on Shelley. Kevin Nash came to the ring to break it up. He and Backlund faced off. Jerry Lynn came to the ring, presumably to calm Backlund but Nash kicked him in the face. Sabin and Shelley began working over Backlund as Nash watched on. They tossed Backlund to the floor, then took worked over Lynn. Jay Lethal hit the ring for the save, nailing elbows. The elbows weren't over with the crowd. Nash walked off instead of facing off with Lethal, but stared at him from ringside. Sabin and Shelley beat on Backlund on the floor, sending him over the railing into the crowd. They played Lethal's music. They did too much going on at once here for me.

KELLER'S SLAMMIVERSARY TAKE: Random thoughts updated throughout the event
By Wade Keller, Torch editor
Jun 17, 2007, 21:23
PWTORCH FOUNDER - EST. 1987 (online 1999)

-If Ron Killings is a heel (although no explanation has been given at all for his decision to team with James Storm since the last time we saw him he as a babyface), he shouldn't be shouting "What's up!?" at the crowd for them to chant it back at him. That's what babyfaces do, and it confuses his character even more. Those annoying noisy chains on his belt have to go, too. He's acting like a heel, but doing the same flashy babyface moves otherwise during his offense.

-Wycheck looked passable for sure in his match. He wasn't svelt or graceful, but he didn't screw anything up. His waist-high dropkicks wouldn't be mistaken for Randy Orton or Jim Brunzell, but for a non-wrestler, it was enough. The feel-good finish was no surprise.

by Alan Wojick @ 12:44:00 AM on 6/18/2007

On June 19, 2002 history was made at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama when NWA: TNA debuted. Two complete shows were filmed that saw Ken Shamrock and "the Phenomenal" AJ Styles walk away with singles gold. Since that night there was a move to Nashville (Municipal Auditorium then the TN State Fairgrounds AKA The Asylum) and Orlando, the NWA has left as well as many roster members, but TNA Wrestling is alive and well despite several reports of its demise, some as early as six weeks into its existence.

Tonight June 17, 2007 is the celebration many never thought would happen: 5 years of TNA Wrestling with the Slammiversary PPV from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium where on July 3, 2002, Styles and Jerry Lynn won tag team gold despite feuding for the X Division title. People gather to celebrate the accomplishments (getting picked up by Spike TV and monthly PPV’s), the innovative creations (Ultimate X, Six Sides of Steel, the King of the Mountain match and Elevation X) and losses of people like Curt Hennig, Road Warrior Hawk, Malice, Chris Candido, Sherri Martel, Mike Lockwood and Jill Jarrett who helped pave the way to tonight’s PPV. It was great seeing some familiar faces from the old weekly PPV’s and some of the Orlando taping people make the journey up.

We saw footage that led to the celebrity tag team match with Frank Wycheck on one side of the ring. Leticia Cline interviewed "Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm and Jacqueline Moore.

Leticia with James Storm backstage, he says he didn't cross a line, Wycheck did. He's a former NFL player for the Tennessee Titans. They haven't done anything, they lost a Super Bowl. Now he wants to come into a TNA ring? He's in his territory. He needs to kiss his family good-bye. Sorry about your damn luck. Storm walks away and Jackie asks Leticia how much her breasts cost.

Slammiversary PPV Thoughts:
Even though I was not in attendance, I figured I would send my thoughts of the pay per view watching it from home since it definitely is a different perspective from being in the building for the pay per view.

Overall, I thought this was one of the best TNA pay per views of the year. There was enough good wrestling on the show to make this a show that is worth getting the replay if you did not buy the pay per view already. As I mention below, the Jeff Jarrett interview was one of the best segments that I have ever seen from this company. There was some good wrestling on the first and third hours of the show and the second hour was not enough to take away from the rest of the show.

I thought the opening match was good and did a lot to build the LAX/Hector Guerrero angle. I don’t like the way that announcers refuse to criticize a wrestler who cheats but is a face while they would crucify a heel who does the same thing. They did the same thing during the Storm/Killings versus Wycheck/Lynn match.

At least they finally explained why Ron Killings is a heel and teaming with James Storm in this match.

I really liked how Don and Mike incorporated the history of the company especially the Nashville days.

When you consider that Frank Wycheck is a retired football player, he did not look too bad in the ring. It was obvious that he was not comfortable at all times in the ring, but he was well protected.

New crossword clue. Seven letter word to describe Christy’s outfit: HOTTTTT

Definition of Irony: There is a sign that read “Women Should Not Wrestle Because They Can’t” that was held by a woman.

If you want to see the heart of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, you need to see Jeff Jarrett’s interview. That alone is worth the price of the pay per view because it showed the emotion that Jeff Jarrett has for the business and that it about more than what you see in the ring. It also made me forget about the previous hour which paled in comparison to the first hour of the pay per view.

TNA SLAMMIVERSARY PPV ROUNDTABLE REVIEWS 6/17: Keller, Radican, Caldwell, McNeill, Mitchell
Jun 18, 2007, 05:48

The opening tag match got things off to a good start, but once again, TNA lost the goodwill of the fans in the midst of a string of matches that followed featuring multiple people involved, match outcomes not meaning anything, the action or people outside of the ring being focused on more than the matches themselves, and meaningless heel turns. Particularly confusing was Bob Backlund’s win over Alex Shelly, which was followed by a string of activity that was needless and confusing. Shelley and Chris Sabin jumped Backlund after the match. Then Jerry Lynn came out, followed by Kevin Nash, who gave him a big boot.

Are you with me still? Then Jay Lethal came out and Nash bailed, as Sabin and Shelley continued to beat Backlund at ringside. It’s amazing to think anyone could come up with this post-match angle and justify its inclusion on the PPV.

The opening match of the night was very solid between Senshi, Jerry Lynn, and Petey Williams. There were a lot of spots during the match involving all three wrestlers that flowed smoothly and made sense. All three men worked well together in the match. The finish to the match was good because it saw Williams hit the Canadian Destroyer only to see him fall victim to the double stomp.

After the tapings ended, many of the wrestlers came out to sign autographs for the fans in the Impact Zone. Regardless of your opinions on the product in the ring, TNA definitely cares about the fans and tries to give back to them. With the week that TNA has (and Mike has talked about it on the site), to have them come out after three hours of wrestling was a good touch.

They cut to Paparazzi Productions for Kevin Nash hosting an Old School vs. New School debate between Shelley & Sabin vs. Lynn & Backlund. Lynn said they need to be on the other side of the rail buying a ticket. Lynn said he took them under his wings, but they didn't appreciate it. Sabin and Shelley lifted up their shirts and mocked Lynn. Backlund snapped and tried to jump the youngsters while Nash signed off.

Old School vs. New School Debate: As a fan of Kevin Nash and the Paparazzi productions in the past (at least a majority of them), I was very disappointed in this debate. First of all, where have these guys been since the last PPV? Why was there never a follow up to Nash turning (sort of) on Jay Lethal at the last PPV? And who thought any of this debate would be funny? O.k. So when Alex Shelley referred to Jerry Lynn as the lead singer of Nickel Back, I laughed. But that was it. Who is looking forward to seeing Lynn & Backlund vs. Shelley & Sabin? Who thought any of this was a good idea? Clearly this raised a lot of questions.

The question I most get asked the day after a PPV is, "Should I order the replay?" In the case of last night's Victory Road PPV, I would absolutely say yes just based on the in-ring wrestling. From top to bottom, there was a lot of good on the PPV.

Jerry Lynn looked good as always and it's amazing he's as good and as crisp as ever. Backlund was Backlund.

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live coverage of TNA Victory Road 2007. The pre-game show was the Road to Victory Road special from SpikeTV, highlighted by Senshi defeating Jerry Lynn and Petey Williams in a very good match after the Warrior's Way doublestomp off the top rope on Williams, who had just nailed the Canadian Destroyer flip piledriver on Lynn.

Leticia interviewed Jerry Lynn and Bob Backlund. Lynn said that he and Backlund were old school and stood for everything that good about professional wrestling - respect, honor and talent. He said they were going to beat respect into Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. Backlund went nuts and said they were fighting for the family unit and America.

News on NFL Star Teaming with The Rock in WWE, TNA Plans Revealed, More
Written by Steve Carrier on 08/04/07 at 12:50 AM

Amidst all the Pacman Jones and TNA discussion, Baltimore Raven Ray Lewis confirmed to the Baltimore Sun earlier this week that he was set to wrestle for TNA this past June at Slammiversary and for WWE back in 2001. Lewis says he agreed to be James Storms's partner in the match against Jerry Lynn and Titan Frank Wycheck. Lewis says he backed out three days before the PPV, but didn't say why. Lewis, who would have entered the match as a heel, would have done a face turn and helped Wycheck and Lynn win the match, he says.

Ray also acknowledged that he had a deal to wrestle for WWE back in 2001, but he backed out of that match as well. The way he tells it, he was supposed to team with his former University of Miami teammate The Rock and he even boarded the plane to go to the event but backed out at the last minute.

When asked if he would ever wrestle, the Baltimore Raven said: “Nah, nah, nah. That’s more acting. That’s a whole different world.” But then he added: “I never want to say never. If it’s good, it’s good. If it’s not, it’s not.”

TNA was the talk of the sports world yesterday with the Pacman Jones signing. I had more non-wrestling friends ask me what TNA was in the last 24 hours than I can ever recall. Like I wrote yesterday, the signing was done to raise awareness of the company and they will accomplish that easily. Whether that translates into something more, we will have to wait and see. Jones will be training under Jeff Jarrett and I believe Jerry Lynn, Chris Harris and James Storm, among others, in a ring TNA has set up at Jones' home. Jones didn't appear at a press conference TNA held yesterday in Nashville.

TNA has a PPV event later tonight? Are you watching it? I might - I haven't decided yet. Here's my predictions for the show:

Kazarian over Raven, Eric Young conquers Robert Roode, Dustin Rhodes defeats James Storm, LAX stops the James Gang, Sonjay Dutt & Jay Lethal get some help from big Kev to squeak a win over XXX & The Motor City Machine Guns, Rhino over James Storm in the Bar Room Brawl, The Steiner Brothers over Team 3D, Samoa Joe kills Kurt Angle dead and takes all the titles, The Christian Coalition (Cage, Styles, Tomko) over Sting, Abyss & Andrew "Punisher" Martin in the "Doomsday Chamber of Blood" main event. Christian takes the pin after a turn by Test.

An interesting card. Not a must-see, but somewhat intriquing anyhow. But no Jerry Lynn? No Christy Hemme? No Lance Hoyt? No Mr. Backlund? The main reasons I'd want to watch have the night off. Whassup with dat?

But we still have Jeremy Borasch & Don West, thank God!

Add Jerry Lynn to the list of names (Hoyt, Hemme) not brought in to Orlando as there were no plans for him for the PPV or tonight's TV.

According to Mike Johnson, Jerry Lynn is no longer on the TNA roster. He asked for his release and received it. Johnson doesn't feel Lynn will be going to WWE but will work the Indy circuit. He also went on to talk about how TNA blew it with Lynn by not using him correctly.

Matt Bentley's contract is due to expire in about 10 days, and according to Johnson neither Bentley or TNA expect it will be be renewed. Johnson also stressed that even though a contract may not be in place, that doesn't stop TNA from using talent in house shows, which is the case with The Naturals, so it isn't a situation of necessarily being totally severed from the company. Johnson said a few years ago there was interest in Bentley by WWE, but doesn't know if that is still the case. Of course, Bentley is the real life nephew of Shawn Michaels.

Matt Hyson (Brother Runt) is also gone from the company. Johnson noted he hadn't been used lately. Doug Basham and Damaja are also no longer with TNA.

Andrew Martin has not endeared himself to the TNA locker room at all. The way he presented himself and his ideas of how he should be used by the company rubbed some people the wrong way.

by Mike Johnson @ 1:23:18 PM on 8/16/2007
TNA's website has removed the profiles of Jerry Lynn, Brother Runt, Matt Bentley, Damaja and Basham, all of whom (as I broke yesterday in my PWInsider.com Elite Hotline) have been released from the company. In the case of Lynn, he asked for and received a release after being with the company from its debut in 2002. I am always shocked when any company lets someone of Lynn's caliber depart, so to me, that one boggled my mind, even if he wanted out.

And Vince needs to hire Jerry Lynn for the ECW Brand - let him teach and work the younger guys - and have a good six-month feud with CM Punk. They can trade the gold back and forth, add some prestige to the title that it currently lacks and the ratings would go up. I know I'd start watching more often.

Enough ramblings. Let's move on.

1/31/08 05:58 pm - carved_dreams - Slam! Wrestling interview with Jerry Lynn

Jerry Lynn has had it with the big time
Jan. 2008

It seems like every wrestler's dream is to make it to the big time, be it the WWE, WCW, ECW, or TNA. But Jerry Lynn is the perfect example of someone who made all of them, and more often than not, came away disappointed by the results.

These days, he's content to be free from the shackles of employment with TNA or WWE, working independent dates as they come up.

In conversation with Lynn, he is upfront about the hills and valleys of his career. Take the WWE, for example.

"It was disappointing because I worked 12 years to get there," Lynn told SLAM! Wrestling. "And well, it wasn't what I thought it was be."

It was not all shocking to Lynn, who had worked with WCW as Mr. JL during the mid-1990s. "I felt and still feel I can offer more than a diva could."

WCW was often chastised by wrestling fans for their use of Jerry Lynn. Fans could see his in-ring ability but were disappointed when he was mostly used a jobber.

Lynn's release from the WWE in 2001 came as a surprise to Lynn. After the WWE paid for knee surgery, Lynn needed six months to recover. After three months, when Lynn was not ready to return, he was given his release papers.

"They called and I told them I wasn't ready to return. A week later the papers were in my mailbox."

TNA was starting right around the time Lynn was released, and Lynn was booked to be on the first pay-per-view. Lynn was a staple in the X Division from day one. He often saw himself in matches with A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels and Low Ki, the initial faces of the innovative division of TNA.

A February 2004 ring injury placed Lynn on the sidelines. This is when he became an agent with TNA.

"You are the in-between guy between the office and the boys," Lynn said. "You are often stuck between a rock and a hard place."

The politics were just too much for Lynn. When he recovered from his shoulder injury, he returned to the ring in June 2005. He was happy to no longer be an agent.

"You have to be the bad guy sometimes. And after a while, it wasn't fun anymore."

TNA was a different promotion from when it started in 2002. The company was full of the same politics he thought he escaped when he left WCW and WWE.

"Booking for politics and not for business," Lynn explained about the changes he saw occur in TNA. "I dare one company to book for business. It would be uncanny how successful they'd be. It will never seem to happen because there are so many egos in this business."

Lynn began to grow frustrated with the company over the next two years. He was not happy with the way he was being booked. He was also unhappy with his pay.

Why did he leave TNA in August 2007? "It was very simple. I wasn't happy there. And when they didn't use me for two tapings in a row, I asked for my release."

TNA did not give Lynn the option of staying with the company as an agent.

When Lynn looks over his career, he noted two highpoints. The first being when he lost his mask, as Mr. JL, to Gran Naniwa in Japan. The other was October 1, 2000, the night be won the ECW Heavyweight title.

Lynn currently works independent shows every weekend. He resides in Minneapolis, Minn., with his wife and two children.

Although Lynn likes being a wrestler, he often hates the environment that comes with it.

"Promoters continue to treat us like toys. And there will always be the next guy who will be there to stab another in the back to be on top. It is an endless cycle that will never end."

Jerry Lynn Interview Recap
Steve Gerweck - Wednesday, December 26 2007 - 4:49 PM

Jerry Lynn joined the Daily Suplex Radio Sunday evening for an interview with the hosts Brian Thomas and Big Luther.

He spoke candidly about ECW, TNA and much more. Here is a recap of what went down in this 30 minute interview:

On his view of the current ECW: Jerry stated it is not like what the old ECW was for sure. He would try to make it more like the old ECW was to improve it. He would like to see some of the original talent brought in to work with the new guys.

On if WWECW be like the ECW of past without Heyman: He believes it could be but they need to want to make it that way. Paul was a big part, but the wrestlers were as well. He said you will never find a group of wrestlers like the old ECW talent again.

On Starting in Minnesota and working with Waltman: Jerry was trained by Brad Regins in Minnesota and Sean with Malenko in Texas. He and Sean would get together and watch all kinds of wrestling and incorporate all of their styles to give fans something new while beating the crap out of each other night in and night out.

On Mr. JL: There were no mask gimmicks in the states at the time and he had just gone to Japan and saw a lot of them. He can back and put together a masked gimmick and sold it to WCW. Unfortunately he broke his arm right away and by the time he got back Bischoff had brought in a bunch of luchadors and his gimmick didn't mean as much.

On getting fired from WCW: He was on a night-to-night contract at the time, and got a year deal after he got back from his injury.

On joining ECW and the New F'n Show: Jerry stated that the fans actually gave him the name New F'n Show after seeing Rob and him put on a great match at the Living Dangerous PPV. After the match, the fans started chanting New F'n Show and it stuck for him.

On winning the ECW title: Jerry said it was a mixed emotion thing because Paul didn't want to put it on him. Justin had to convince Paul that he should win the belt, but Jerry knew it wouldn't last long.

On his TNA matches with Justin Credible in 2004: Jerry said he really enjoyed working with Justin, but felt that TNA rushed the feud too much and it wasn't able to get over with the crowd.

On TNA's X Division: TNA never really presented the X division to Jerry. He was excited to be part of the company from day one and was fortunate to be in a big angle with AJ Styles. He puts over the other talent as helping make the show fun and was happy that they were not held back but allowed to go out and tear down the house.

On whether he knew TNA was close to shutting down: Jerry said that rumors were always present in the back and there were a few times they wondered whether the current shows were the last shows or not.

On what is missing in wrestling today: Jerry said that the element of surprise was missing in today's wrestling show. He stated that it used to be that anyone could win on any given night and now it is almost too predictable.

On working with Amazing Red: Jerry called Red an amazing talent and said he always told him to work smart because he knew he would injure himself at the pace he was going.

On his return to the ring in TNA: Jerry said his program with Sabin was never meant to go anywhere. He basically was made fun of week in and week out and never got his comeback and then lost on pay-per-view.

On leaving TNA: It was Jerry's choice and he made it because there was no room for advancement and they hadn't booked him two tapings in a row which lost him a months worth of income. He commented on the policy of not letting TNA talent work for promotions who had DVD distribution or PPV deals.

On Ring of Honor: Jerry stated that he has talked to them, but they have just signed a bunch of talent to contracts and given them medical coverage.

On what he does now: He works a lot out of Chicago for AAW and praised their shows as a lot of fun. He also works for Anarchy Championship Wrestling and is the champion there. He called them a smaller version of ECW. He loves what he does and doesn't want to quit as long as his body holds up.

On working and winning the Super 8 Tournament: He said he was shocked when he got called to be in it and was also honored. He asked what took so long to book him and was told he was always under contract before. He said it was a fun night and a big night in his career.

On going back to WWE: He said there may be interest if the money is right and he has called and is waiting to hear back. One of his goals he hasn't accomplished is working a WWE pay per view. He stated he would love to wrestle Shawn Michaels before either of them retires.

Jerry also talks about TNA Lockdown, the ridiculous cage used for the show, working with the women in TNA, and many other topics.

9/1/07 04:05 pm - carved_dreams - Jerry Lynn Talks About Release From TNA, Future In ECW, Final Match With RVD?

Steve Gerweck - Monday, August 27 2007 - 12:29 PM

Former ECW World Heavyweight Champion & former TNA X-Division Champion, Jerry Lynn, was one of the special guests on this past week's live edition of Monday Night Mayhem (08/20/07), which can be heard in streaming audio every week (hosted by The Big Mosh & Blade, and heard LIVE at 8PM ET/7PM CT every Monday night) exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network (www.MondayNightMayhem.com, www.OnlineWorldOfWrestling.com, www.ProWrestlingPress.com, www.AllWNYRadio.com, www.Showdown,net, & www.AudioWrestling.com).

Jerry's first interview since leaving Total Nonstop Action Wrestling can now be heard for FREE in Real Audio.

Here are some of the highlights from the interview provided by Mayhem listener, Daniel1991.

As part of The Mayhem's farewell to its long-time co-host, The Angry Hero, we found it fitting to bring back one of our favorite guests in our five+ year show history -- the pioneer of TNA's X-Division & one of the best technical wrestlers in the history of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Jerry Lynn.

To start things off, The Big Mosh asked what went wrong with Jerry & TNA. Jerry said that he was not used for television tapings for about a month and was not getting paid for it, so he asked for his release & the rest is history.

The Angry Hero asked about the direction Total Nonstop Action was going when Jerry was on the shows. Jerry said that he was disappointed and felt that he had a lot more to offer. There are other talent in the company that are older than him, so he feels that making a deal about his age is something his critics should not worry about.

The Big Mosh asked about Adam "Packman" Jones and whether or not his presence will have a positive effect on the company. Jerry said it simply depends on how TNA uses him. When it came to using former Tennessee Titans tight end, Frank Wycheck, both Frank & the company did a great job.

Mosh & Blade mentioned that since both Jerry & Rob Van Dam are now free agents, what are the chances of their "dream match" happening in the future. Jerry said that it would probably would have never happened in TNA, because they were not pushing Jerry to that extent. He always looks forward to working with Rob again sometime in the future.

When it comes to possibly joining back up with the WWE (in the form of the ECW brand), Jerry said that if the money was there, then he could possibly see himself doing it & going back.

All of this goodness & more can be found in this near 25-minute interview on The Mayhem: including Jerry's uncensored thoughts & takes on a possible future in Ring Of Honor, as well as the chances of the federal government stepping in to regulate professional wrestling.

CALDWELL'S IMPACT REPORT 4/5: Ongoing virtual time coverage of Spike TV show
Taped March 26 in Orlando, Florida
Report by James Caldwell, Torch columnist

[Commercial Break]

Jim Cornette was in the ring for the company-wide meeting. He said some people are unclear of their roles at Lockdown. He then listed the Lockdown card. Five-man Xscape match for the X Division Title: Chris Sabin vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Shark Boy. No Jerry Lynn in the title match this month. Robert Roode vs. Petey Williams. Jerry Lynn vs. Christopher Daniels, who wasn't in attendance. A very special challenge match: Senshi vs. Austin Starr with Mr. Backlund as special referee. Chris Harris vs. James Storm in a blindfold match. Gail Kim vs. Jackie Moore in a ladies cage match. What defines a "ladies" cage match? I'm sure TNA's Props and Sets department will have fun with that. LAX vs. Team 3D for the NWA Tag Titles in an electrified cage match. Main event: Lethal Lockdown match with Team Angle vs. Team Cage.

Cage said he enjoyed working with Rhino in TNA, particularly their cage match on the first primetime Impact. He said AJ Styles is showing a lot of personality and is finding himself now. He noted the recent Joe match. Cage said he'd love to wrestle the X-Division guys like Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt. He'd love to wrestle Jerry Lynn and Bobby Roode as well.

Jerry Lynn vs. Christopher Daniels (Steel Cage Match): Christopher Daniels is now the TNA version of Fake Sting, doing the Stinger's entire act, except for the face paint, in the hope of getting under the former champ's skin. Projection? It's a Jerry Lynn match on pay-per-view, so Jerry does the job again for Daniels.

LOCKDOWN'S NEGATIVES: The Lockdown concept, in my opinion, should be scaled back and utilized for just a few top matches. Jerry Lynn vs. Christopher Daniels, for example, didn't need to be in a cage. I know it does well for the company but sometimes, less is more.

LOCKDOWN: IN THE MIDDLE: Jerry Lynn vs. Christopher Daniels as a match was just kind of there. It never really clicked into second gear and the crowd seemed let down when they teased doing a big move off the ropes but then didn't do it. If the match was designed to give Daniels' new heel persona some ring time to establish it, they accomplished that goal, but for someone who knows what these guys can do, my expectations weren't met because the match was OK, but not the spectacular bout one might hope for.

by Chuck Fiello Jr. @ 12:26:00 AM on 5/12/2007

Tonight I attended the UWF show in Mooresville, NC at the Lake Norman High School. I have to say, that it was my first non WWE or WCW show in possibly 12 years so I did not have much expectations going in. I will say that I left very impressed and a bigger fan of the company. I will break this down by the matches (with limited action play by play) and explain how the whole evening went.

The show started 30 minutes late due to a problem with one of the trucks breaking down on the interstate (well, actually bell time was the same as advertised, it was the opening of the doors that was late). At 6:30, those with Ultimate Experience tickets were allowed in and let me just say this, if you are a wrestling fan and have the money, its well worth the $50. I bought a shirt for my son who did not attend with me and every one of the guys and girls signed it without hesitation. The wrestlers all sat around the ring and you could talk to them and get them to sign stuff for you. They all seemed very friendly to talk with, even I was feeling like a kid when I got to talk to Jerry Lynn for a bit about his match being added to the pay per view Sunday night.

I also got a laugh when a guy handed Raven a Steve Corino picture and Raven signed it "CORINO" across his stomach, which also got a big laugh out of Steve Corino and CW Anderson sitting beside him on the ring apron. I must say though, to watch Daffney on TV (well, I was a fan of her work in WCW) and Gail Kim on TV does not do them as much justice as seeing them in person. After two sets of wrestlers came out, the rest of the crowd entered about 7:30 and at 8pm exactly, the bell rang.

Match Number 4 - Raven against Jerry Lynn. I have to admit, this was the other main match I really had to see as a former casual fan of ECW. This match did not have ECW style written on it as many might think but it did however work for me as a fan. Raven's work on the microphone (when it worked right for him) was priceless and Jerry Lynn was working well with his comments and the crowd to build it up. This match was in my opinion, a very technical match that took place almost as much outside the ring as inside (I didn't say it was all technical, just a lot of it). Raven would end up winning the match with an Evenflow DDT but also stuck around long enough for Lynn to regain his composure and return the favor. As I said, some fans may have been hoping for an ECW, all out hardcore bout but I was happy with what they did, they told a good story.

Do YOU want to tell Mr. Yamazaki he's not winning? Didn't think so. Projection? Tiger Mask scores the fall over designated jobber Jerry Lynn to get our evening off to a hot start.

X Division Title Match: Chris Sabin versus Sonjay Dutt versus ‘Black Machismo’ Jay Lethal
cut for length and talking about the matchCollapse )

Chris Sabin is a four time X Division champion and currently holds the title. He defeated Christopher Daniels at Final Resolution in a Triple Threat match that also featured Jerry Lynn. Over the last year, Chris Sabin has shown a change in his personality that has seen Sabin sit atop the X Division since the ‘Big Three’ moved on. The change in Sabin occurred gradually during the World X Cup and got more pronounced as Jerry Lynn tried to reign in the man from Hell, Michigan . After a period when he was influenced by the movie Jackass Number Two, he gave up on the fans and decided to go his own way. Over the last few months, Sabin was feuding with the man who many considered to be his mentor, Jerry Lynn. Sabin did his best to get under Lynn ’s skin by mocking the fact that Jerry is a veteran and older than Sabin. Now that Sabin is done with Lynn at this time, he can set his sights on his former Team USA members who he will be facing on Sunday. cut for length and talking about the matchCollapse )

Jerry Lynn versus Senshi versus Tiger Mask versus Alex Shelley

This match could be considered the ‘we have some X Division guys and need to put them in a match’ match. This month’s version has an extra added dimension with Japanese wrestling star Tiger Mask IV as a part of the match. This match features the past, present, and future of the X Division as well as a wrestling icon who has transformed the light heavyweight division for decades. Two of these men were among the innovators of the X Division when Total Nonstop Action Wrestling started five years ago while Alex Shelley has been a mainstay in the X Division during his time in the company. Tiger Mask makes his first appearance on a TNA pay per view this Sunday but with the tradition of the Tiger Mask character, he should fit right in with these three men in the six sided ring. Two of these men have held the X Division title and Senshi was the man who took the title from Samoa Joe last year before losing it to Chris Sabin at Bound for Glory. The three regular TNA contracted wrestlers are hovering around the X Division title picture but they seem to be just short of that point right now. Will a victory by one of these three mean that they will be a future contender for the X Division title? What happens if Tiger Mask wins the match? Will he get a title match before returning to Japan?

Jerry Lynn is called the ‘Pioneer of the X Division’ and was one of the men who helped to build that division to the point where it was headlining a pay per view in 2005. While Jerry was not a full time wrestler during the time that TNA has been in Orlando , he has been an important part of the division behind the scenes as a mentor to the young stars of the division. Before returning to the ring on a regular basis, Lynn was the man behind Team USA in the World X Cup and was a mentor to Chris Sabin. It was Sabin who caused Lynn to return to the ring because Sabin was not showing the respect that Lynn felt the X Division wrestlers needed to give to the other wrestlers. Despite being one of the older members of the TNA roster, Lynn has shown that he can still match move for move with the younger members of the X Division. Lynn recently had a few shots at Chris Sabin’s X Division title but fell short in those matches. Lynn relies more on the mat based style but if it is necessary, he will hit a ‘typical’ X Division move. One thing that Jerry Lynn is able to do in the ring is help to elevate his opponent as much as have a strong match and with a potential star in the making in this match, it will be interesting to see what he does in the ring with Alex Shelley. A solid performance in this match might bring Lynn back into the X Division title picture. Will Lynn get to hit the cradle piledriver tonight or will he fall short like he did against Chris Sabin?

KELLER: Being cool matters and TNA falls short
By Wade Keller, Torch editor
May 16, 2007, 21:33
PWTORCH FOUNDER - EST. 1987 (online 1999)

Let's blunt. TNA is pushing a number of acts that aren't "cool." Petey Williams, Lance Hoyt, Team 3D, Kip James, Jeff Jarrett, Ron Killings, Jerry Lynn, Rhino, Robert Roode, Don West, and Mike Tenay jump out as the bottom tier of TNA in terms of the "cool factor." They either feel regional, dated, nerdy, out of touch, bland, or yesterday's news. In some cases, it's the fault of how they've been presented and booked. In other cases, it's a lost cause and even a reality TV make-over show couldn't make them seem cool to the 18-34 male wrestling fans who will dictate the fate of TNA's profitability and TV ratings.

5) Forget about 1990s star power; it's irrelevant. It's 2007, not 2001. Rhino's day as ECW Champion mean less than his days at WWE mid-carder, and neither means much in 2007. TNA wrestlers are being judged on what they do today. TNA is a mix of wrestlers getting a "who's that?" or "he's still wrestling?!" reaction. They should pick one of those two themes and run with it, and the obvious one is to feature more "who's that?" wrestlers and put them in a context where they are compelling to watch and become "today's stars." WWE has created a roster full of new stars since the Dudleys, New Age Outlaws, Jeff Jarrett, Raven, Sting, and the mid-card Rhino/Jerry Lynn/Jackie Moore types were on national cable during the Monday Night War era. Those older, pre-defined WWE castoffs and has-beens define down TNA's fresher assets.

Although an overhaul of the concept and roster might be the route many would suggest, these suggestions are about adjusting mid-course. It's about taking the concept they're promoting now with the talent they have and making the best of it. I managed to get through this without the obvious usual top suggestions of pushing the X Divison again, downplaying Jarrett, slowing down the pace of the booking, making the in-ring wrestling more credible and contemporary, and having clean finishes as the rule not the exception. Those all still apply, but being "more cool" would go a long way in and of itself. Then a little Backlund or Eric Young humor can be tension-breaker not a mood-definer.

TNA will be holding a press conference today in Nashville, TN to formally announce next month's Slammiversary PPV with TNA President Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett both scheduled to appear and speak. Jerry Lynn and James Storm will also be in attendance. Former Tennessee Titans Tight end Frank Wycheck will also be in attendance at the conference, announcing his involvement in the PPV. Wycheck was one of the football players involved in the 2002 skirmish at ringside with Jarrett during the company's Wednesday night PPV era.

Add TNA X-Division champion Chris Sabin vs. Jay Lethal to the Slammiversary PPV as well.

by Mike Johnson @ 1:13:00 PM on 5/31/2007

PWInsider.com has confirmed that at today's Nashville, TN press conference TNA will announce a NFL-themed match that will feature football personalities for next month's Slammiversary PPV.

Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Lynn, and James Storm are scheduled to appear at the conference so it's most likely they will be involved in the bout. Former Tennessee Titan Frank Wycheck will also be at the conference and is taking part in the PPV.

by Mike Johnson @ 3:24:00 PM on 5/31/2007

TNA just ended its press conference in Nashville, TN for the Slammiversary PPV next month. It was announced during the conference that former Tennessee Titans Tightend Frank Wycheck will be wrestling James Storm in a singles bout at the PPV.

The company ran a physical angle, which will likely get press in the Nashville market during the conference. The TNA website reported that Wycheck (with the help of Jeff Jarrett) nailed Storm over the head with a guitar after having beer spit in his face.

Obviously the mainstream sports crossover idea was devised to get TNA some national attention as previous efforts using Major League Baseball stars David Eckstein and AJ Pierzynski (among others) have garnered the company mentions on ESPN and CNN, among other media outlets.

TNA originally had even grander plans for the angle. Earlier today, PWInsider.com reported that the promotion was poised to announce an NFL-themed bout for the PPV. According to sources outside of TNA, the company was in negotiations for Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis to come in and team with Storm against Wycheck and Jerry Lynn. The finalized deal with Lewis wasn't struck and he isn't expected to appear at the Slammiversary. WWE had negotiated with Lewis several years ago about doing a potential PPV bout but that deal was never completed either.

It's possible TNA could use the singles bout to lead to a bigger angle with Lewis or another NFL personality down the line, similar to their 2005 Basebrawl angles leading to additional appearances from other MLB personalities.

Wycheck was among a number of Tennessee Titans who got into a ringside skirmish with Jeff Jarrett during the promotion's 2002 Wednesday night PPV series. His Slammiversary appearance follows a number of NFL stars who have appeared in pro wrestling matches as special attractions in the past including Lawrence Taylor, Kevin Greene, and Reggie White.

5/14/07 02:49 pm - carved_dreams - new Jerry Lynn interview!

by Rios Granillo @ 10:24:00 AM on 5/14/2007

This past week on In Your Head Radio with Jack and Oneinchbiceps, the former WWF Light heavyweight Champion and former ECW Alumni Jerry Lynn was the guest of the night. Jerry Lynn was here to talk about his runs in WWF, WCW, ECW, XPW and Global, his classic matches with Rob Van Dam, El Drunko, “The Lightning Kid” Sean Waltman and the infamous inVasion angle. Jerry was also there to plug Hermie Sadler’s UWF events and more information can be reached at http://www.uwfusa.com.

Be sure to listen to the full interview located at www.inyourheadonline.com. In Your Head can be heard every Wednesday at 8:00 PM EST and be sure to also check out past interviews in the archive section and sign up in the IYH message board were you can post questions to future guests.

The interview is kicked off when Jack brings up Jerry’s show for Hermie Sadler’s UWF promotion and that he would be facing Raven on one of the shows. Jerry says that after 19 years of wrestling and being in dozens of promotions, he has never faced off against Raven before and he is really looking forward to it. Jerry also brings up that the only time him and Raven have ever been in the same ring is when Raven did a “run-in” in one of Jerry’s matches with “The Lightning Kid” Sean Waltman during their Global Wrestling days on ESPN.

Jack asks if he enjoys working for Hermie Sadler? Jerry says that he always has a blast and he hasn’t missed a show.

Jerry brings up that at another UWF show, he is facing off against both Raven and D’Lo Brown in a 3-Way Matchup. Incher asks how D’Lo Brown is doing nowadays and Jerry responds by saying that he is doing good, and owns part of an Arena Football Team.

Jack takes a call from Goosey, who asks if Jerry thought he would ever wrestle again after he tore his Patella Tendon? Jerry said that nothing will stop him from wrestling, unless it leaves him in some kind of quadriplegic state, but he knew he would wrestle again.

Goosey also asks what it was like to work with Chris Candido? Jerry said that it was a blast and that he had so much fun, he also said that his first match in ECW was against Chris.

Jack asks for his thoughts on the new ECW? Jerry says that is too bad that they are so intent on destroying the legacy of ECW. Jerry believes that the new ECW is just a way for the WWE to use talent that they cant or don’t want to use on RAW or Smackdown.

Caller JasonX asks if he ever thought that his work in Global Wrestling would still be as memorable as it is today? Jerry said not really and that he was just looking for work and having fun wrestling.

JasonX also asks about his match with Steve Corino and what was going through his mind when he wrote “DIE” on his chest? Jerry said that his feud with Steve didn’t have a lot of build up so he decided to take matters into his own hands, so he wrote “DIE” on his chest.

Incher asks about Steve and his announcement to retire soon? Jerry said that if he is not enjoying wrestling anymore, then why bother, but he wishes Steve the best..

Jack takes a call from Chris the Crusher who asks if he would have liked to have been in the inVasion storyline in WWF? Jerry says that he was at first insulted that he wasn’t apart of it, but when he thought about it, it was probably for the best because Vince McMahon would never put over any of the ECW or WCW talent, so it was for the best.

Chris also asks about the lockeroom moral back in the dying days of ECW like? Jerry said it was pretty low and that most of the guys kept going on for the sake of the company and that once ECW folded, it was over and all the guys who worked for Paul E. were screwed.

Jack asks if Paul Heyman has ever apologized for what happened during the end of ECW? Jerry said no and that there was a lot of bad blood between them, mostly on his end, but he said that it is all water under the bridge now.

Jack takes a call from ElTNAfan who asks about his matches with Rob Van Dam and if he considers those matches his best ever? He says that his most memorable matches are with Rob, but its hard to name his best match he also enjoyed working with Lance Storm, Justin Credible, Mikey Whipwreck, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk on the Indy’s.

Incher asks if he will ever regain a rematch with El Drunko in IWA: East Coast? Jerry said he hopes so, he really enjoys working there and when he worked with El Drunko, it was probably the oddest wresting experience he ever had.

Jack asks if he enjoys high flying wrestling or slower paced wrestling? Jerry said years ago, he and Sean Waltman would sit around and watch tapes from all over the world and try to incorporate the different styles into their repertoires so he likes to mix it up a bit.

Spec_Sun calls in and asks about his time in WCW as Mr. JL and what experiences he took from working there? Jerry said none really, there wasn’t anything worth while there, he said that his most memorable moment is when he wrestled Ric Flair and oddly enough Meng and the Barbarian. When Jack asked why that was so memorable, Jerry answers “Because I came out alive.”

Spec Sun also asks what wrestler through out the years has been the most inspirational to his career? Jerry says that’s tough and that Baron Von Rasche was around when he first broke into the business in Minnesota, he also says that Eddie Gilbert, Terry Taylor, Ray Stevens and Ricky Morton were also very inspirational to his career.

Another caller named Jason asks, What he would have taken away from ECW while he was there? Jerry responded with “Take the Money!.” Jerry then went on to say that just thinking positively and trying to have fun is the most important thing you can do.

Jason then asks about the possibility of Rob Van Dam going to TNA and if Jerry would welcome him with open arms? Jerry said if RVD signs with TNA, then they would have to talk business and make it worth their while.

Incher asks a question from Rios, What are your opinions on Rob Black and XPW? Jerry responded by saying that he had no problems with Rob and that he gave him a job and gave him an opportunity to work.

In Jerry’s last moments on the show, he thanks all his fans for the support and tells them not to worry because he isn’t going to quite just yet.

That concludes the interview with Jerry Lynn.

The full interview is located at www.inyourheadonline.com along with past interviews in the archive section. Sign up for the message board and ask all future IYH guests your personal questions or if you want you can always call into the show and ask the superstar yourself.

Opening Cage Match: This is the type of match that I usually would give a Miss to. So I will get the bad out of the way. It started with all six guys in the ring which doesn't allow for a sense of who is actually in the match. It had a typical TNA stipulation that had to be explained by Mike Tenay. The match actually featured Shark Boy in prominence as he got the first elimination on Alex Shelley. That was bad. But there was enough good action in the short match to make it enjoyable enough to watch. For one thing, the eliminations were all from finishing moves, as opposed to this type of match in WWE where at least two of the pins would have been from some type of roll up. I was happy to see the Canadian Destroyer (although I do cringe every time I see it) just because it seems like Petey Williams never hits the move since turning baby face. The end of the match with Williams and Jerry Lynn hanging from the outside of the cage was strong, and the post match attack by Christopher Daniels continued that story line. So, it wasn't great and certainly could have been better, but I am still giving it a marginal Hit.

Jerry Lynn & Papadon

It has also been confirmed that NYWC Interstate Champion Jerry Lynn and Papadon will be in tag team action, although their opponents have not yet been determined. One thing is certain, however... whoever shows up to face Lynn and Papadon will have their hands full, as Papadon is currently riding a tremendous wave of momentum, and Jerry Lynn is, well, Jerry Lynn. Papadon also has a free title shot sitting in his back pocket thanks to his "Joker's Wild Battle Royal" win earlier this year... is this the night he chooses to cash it in?

Jerry Lynn & Petey Williams d. The Naturals

Jerry Lynn put the "rest" in "wrestling" in this match and the crowd was pretty dead except for some guy who kept calling the naturals gay. There were some good spots in this match but it was worked to fill time...and it did. Still not a bad match though, just slower than it should have been.

Les Thatcher @ 11:28:00 AM on 3/8/2007

I was excited for the return of Jerry Lynn to TNA's line up. Now all we need for someone there to understand is that the talented veteran doesn't need ladders, tables, or every match to be a multi-man extravaganza. Please just give an athletic, wrestler with good skills (like Sabin, Shelly, etc) and let him work his magic in a program with that wrestler over a period of time, and I think he will do more to elevate the X Division then all the comedy skits rolled together.

Join Les and co-host Doc Young every Tuesday night 8 till 10 PM EST with their special guests on the award winning Internet talk show "Wrestling Weekly" at http://www.wrestlingweekly.com.

Chris Sabin vs. Jerry Lynn (TNA X Division Title – 2/3 Falls): This is TNA, and they are wrestling, so the over-under on the length of this two out of three falls title match is what...ten minutes? Projection? Sabin wins the third and deciding fall with a handful of tights.

TNA DESTINATION X PPV ROUNDTABLE: Keller, Caldwell, Mitchell, Radican, McNeill
Mar 12, 2007, 13:39

Bruce Mitchell, Torch columnist (3.5): Kurt Angle's match with Scott Steiner did nothing for Angle's self-proclaimed "greatest wrestler in the world" reputation At least Joe is still over with most of the Impact Zone fans. No one else really was. He and Jeff Jarrett, I mean Christian Cage, had a decent match until the usual predictable run-in nonsense and a horrible finish that sure taught Joe who was boss. Jerry Lynn and Chris Sabin had a good match, too.

What You Didn't See On TNA's Destination X
Reported by RyanGray@PWMania.com
Ryan Gray on 03/12/2007

Thanks to Brian Frederick for sending the following report:

Major controversy broke out during the X Division match, not sure how it came off on TV but a brawl broke out in the main Pit seating area and all the fans rushed to it just like when the boys fight in the crowd. TNA security, Orlando PD and a few on-lookers kind of broke it up and removed a few un-ruly parties from the arena. However one man protested and started a fight back up again prompting Don Harris to apply a rear naked choke to the man that I swear would kill a gorilla. This is when the TNA chant started in the crowd. It was really something else to see and I hope it didn't take away from the match on TV.

Feel free to send feedback to richard@pwinsider.com.

It looks like they are building to a feud between Jerry Lynn and Christopher Daniels. If that is the case, I think it is a great thing for the company and for wrestling in general if these two men are going to be in the ring together.

Mike Johnson @ 3:35:00 PM on 3/22/2007
Speaking of the TNA Today daily videos, they've featured some exclusive interviews and footage of AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, and Kurt Angle in recent days. I'd compare them somewhat to the old WWE magazine shows that would air on the USA Networks over the weekend.

Interview Highlights: A.J. Styles
Mar 6, 2007, 16:55

A.J. Styles was TNA's selected media conference call subject earlier today. Torch VIP member "deadseadrop" has provided the following recap of the media conference call.

He said it took far too long but he's super glad that Jerry Lynn is back in the ring in TNA. He said he's in great shape and has a ton to offer.

TNA Footage from Fanfest

Just thought I would pass along a report from the TNA Fanfest in St. Louis.

TNA divided the roster into two with one group signing for two hours, and the second group signing for the next two. The first group included Sting, Abyss, Team 3-D, AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, Petey Williams, Samoa Joe, and others.

For some reason there was a long line for Mike Tenay and Don West, but not for stars like Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Austin Starr, Jay Lethal, Jerry Lynn, and others.

I missed the first hour, so if I missed something good, I'm sorry. Anyways, keep up the good work!

by Tannaka Boler @ 8:37:00 PM on 4/14/2007

Here's a report about the TNA Fan Interaction today in St. Louis:

I would love to give some honorable mentions to Samoa Joe, Jerry Lynn, Austin Starr, Alex Shelley, Senshi, Homicide, Hernandez, Gail Kim, Chris Harris, Jim Cornette, Rhino, Team 3D and Christopher Daniels for being so personable. Cornette was the very last person to still have people approaching him at his table once it started to wind down. It definitely goes a long way.

CALDWELL'S THIS IS TNA REPORT 2/12: Ongoing live coverage of Spike TV show
by James Caldwell, PWTorch columnist
Feb 12, 2007, 21:59

We open with Eric Young sitting in a room with dogs barking. Young
said they're watching the dog show, but then he found TNA on the dial
and decided to stick with the program.

Moment #4 was A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe from
the Unbreakable PPV for the X Division Title. Styles did an interview
calling it the best match of the year and the best match in TNA
history. Samoa Joe said it let fans know what they would be willing
to do to win a match. Daniels said it put the X Division on the map.

They aired a video package on the Ultimate X match to promote
Destination X in March. Everyone from the X Division discussed the
strategy behind the match. They then focused on Christopher Daniels,
Jerry Lynn, Senshi, Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, and Petey Williams as
the men who laid the foundation for the X Division.

Tenay and West discussed the X Division as what separates the company
from the competition. West teased the debut of a new concept before
they went to a Halloween Haunt feature on the six sides of steel cage match.

by Mike Johnson @ 7:07:00 PM on 2/12/2007

Richard Trionfo called in the following spoilers from tonight's TNA
Impact taping in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios:

*They announce a ladder match to determine the top contender for the X-Division championship will take place next week with Senshi, Jerry Lynn, Austin Starr, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt competing.

Impact 3/1/07:
